Plasma Robotics competed this last weekend along with 42 other teams in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Arizona West Regional Tournament, after an intense 6 week robot build season.  While thrilled with their performance during the robot games, making it all the way to the semi-finals competition, the highlight of the tournament and the team’s existence (founded in 2007) came when they were presented with the most prestigious award of FIRST, the Chairman’s Award!!  This award honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST.   Plasma Robotics was judged to have the most significant measurable impact of its partnerships among its participants and community over a sustained period of time, not just a single build season.  With this award came the unexpected invitation to attend the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO this April 27-30, 2016!!!

The kids are now on a mission to raise the funds to travel to St. Louis, MO to compete with 900 other teams from 39 countries and interact with the championship sponsors which include Qualcomm, Bosch, Boeing, IBM, Google and FedEx, just to mention a few.  Parents of Plasma Inc., the parent group supporting the team, has already raised the $5,000 entry fee for the competition.  However, Plasma Robotics is needing an additional $18,000 for travel, hotel stay and food for the 22 student team members.
